Touring the royal palace of Williamsburg, VA I learned about the last royal governor, Lord Dunmore, who arrived in 1774 and was run out of town in June 1775. He quickly did a lot of damage to himself and the British cause. Patrick Henry helped stage rebellions against Dunmore, and became the first revolutionary governor of Virginia in 1775, occupying the governor’s mansion.
