US Begins 250th Anniversary Celebrations With Gusto
Boston and Charleston reenact 1773 Tea Party rebellions
Heading toward the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026, the United States has begun major observances and re-enactments of events leading up to that fateful day. These celebrations are not only a time to recall history but to reflect on how far we’ve come and how far we have left to go as a nation to create a more perfect union where all men and women are created equal.
And a nation where, in keeping with our birthright, autocrats and would-be dictators should be checked and restrained by the power of the people.
Observances of semi-quincentennial events have until now been muted. Americans don’t yet have a strong sense of what led up to the revolution. The 250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre on March 5, 2020 occurred just as the country was shutting down from the covid pandemic.
The 250th anniversary of the Battle of Alamance in North Carolina, on May 16, 2021, also known as the final battle of the Regulator Rebellion against taxation without representation, was subdued
