During eight years based in the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, I also visited Israel, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, and Egypt. I felt safe in all of them most of the time, met many friendly people, visited some spectacular sites, and gained an understanding of the region, and insights into human behavior in this environment.
Overview:
Probably the best way to have a positive experience of the Middle East is to attend or teach at a higher-educational institution like New York University-Abu Dhabi.
Or to attend a high school like the American Community School of Abu Dhabi, the embassy school that my son Alex had the privilege of attending, with over 60 nationalities represented.
